Woman Photographs Herself Receiving Strange Looks in Public

“I now reverse the gaze and record their reactions to me while I perform mundane tasks in public spaces. I seek out spaces that are visually interesting and geographically diverse. I try to place myself in compositions that contain feminine icons or advertisements. Otherwise, I position myself and the camera in a pool of people…and wait.

The images capture the gazer in a microsecond moment where they, for unknowable reasons, have a look on their face that questions my presence. Whether they are questioning my position in front of the lens or questioning my body size, the gazer appears to be visually troubled that I am in front of them.”

Thought this was actually really cool and I’d share it with you guys! Takes a lot to get up there and do something like this. Love it!

this is such a fucking important project to me because i am constantly stared at in public in a negative way and turned into some disgusting object for the amusement of others and this is a peaceful way to confront those people

turning the spectators into the spectacle

notice how must of these looks are from women?

Cool

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month!!!

Thus far, my sorors and I have been working hard to spread the word, from our “Teal Tuesdays” (teal is the official color for the commemorative month), to sharing statistics and facts with the student body, to our whiteboard campaign. It was great to see my peers willingly join in and express themselves, as we worked to raise awareness about SAAM. :)

This is just a few of the MANY photos we have taken, posted, and shared…and from what I’ve been informed, our movement has been picked up by the Deltas and our sorors at Bethune-Cookman University, as well.

Service…gotta love it!

The Battle of Byggeren…

Hell broke out in Copenhagen in may 1980 as the municipality evicted the self-managed adventure playground, Byggeren, in the Nørrebro district. After ten days of rioting the police felt compelled to declare a state of emergency.

Hey hey these are stickers designed by my raccoon friend Kyra!  If you want them to get printed & you have a dollar to spare, throw some money so they can get in the first bulk order.  The stickers are $4 each.
Here’s the other design:

In response to the recent red/pink gay marriage equals sign logo by the HRC, Kyra made a red version which will be printed if HRC decides to make that color change permanent.

Assimilation isn’t liberation.
In my still-developing view of things, if you want to get gay married, do what you gotta do, I personally think gay marriage should be a legal option.  But fuck thinking everything’s gonna be peachy once all the gay white dudes in New York can kiss in front of a preacher.

Hundreds Protest Against NYPD Killing In Brooklyn Despite Heavy Police Presence

200+ came out today to protest the NYPD killing of Kimani Gray.

Police outnumbered the protest 3 to 1 with officers on foot with riot gear (6th photo), on rooftops (2nd photo), on ‘interceptors’ (last photo) and on horses (7th photo) and at least two officers were stationed on each corner in a 10 block radius.

Officers from the “Disorder Control Unit” was deployed to suppress the march which was heading towards the 67th precinct to demand justice. The Disorder Control Unit are meant to police riots and civil unrest in the NYC area.

In 2011, a document was posted online by Occupiers detailing the purpose of the DCU. The first point on the document says officers must “Always have disorder control equipment, including helmet and baton, ready for immediate use.” and maintain “A strong military appearance,

At approx. 5:30, police made their first arrest. Officers violently charged into the crowd who were on the sidewalk and arrested a random person (5th photo).

About 20 minutes later, an officer on a scooter targeted a live streamer by  driving into him and ripping his charger off of his equipment, killing the stream. The battery fell behind police line and officers did not allow him to retrieve it for about 10 minutes.

The NYPD were seen carrying a LRAD-X (3rd photo), a ‘non-lethal’ weapon which can by used to emit harmful and painful sounds. It is used as a crowd control weapon but has proven to cause permanent ear damage and even deafness.
